Christmas Mince Filo Bites

These easy to make sweet treats, are a Christmas take on a baklava style of dessert. Instead of being filled with nuts, Christmas fruit mince is added and an orange syrup completes the dish.
These are a great alternative to the more traditional Christmas mince pie

In a saucepan, place fruit mince and juice of half an orange and the grated rind from both oranges, and heat on low until the mixture becomes very soft.
Take 4 sheets of filo pastry and place on top of each other, brushing melted butter between each layer.
Spread half the fruit mince mixture thinly  over the filo stack leaving 5 cm free at the top but going as close as possible to other edges.
Sprinkle with one third  the chopped nuts.
Roll tightly  from the wide end into a long log shape and brush with more melted butter.
Cut into 8cm pieces and lay  close together into a baking paper lined tin. (I cut my pieces on an angle for more interest but you can also cut them into straight pieces.
Repeat with second set of filo .
Preheat oven to  180C Steam + Hot air/Circulaire, medium humidity(Steam Combi level 2 in Asko) for 20 minutes or until crisp and golden.
While the pastries are cooking make a syrup in the saucepan with the remaining orange juice, and honey and cook until slightly thickened.
Pour syrup over the pastries as soon as they come out of the oven and sprinkle with the remaining nuts.

25 gm melted butter
4 T honey
